Quick Answer: Reiki does not have to be limited to a formal treatment. Once you are attuned to Reiki, you can channel it throughout your day—while getting ready, driving, eating, drinking, spending time with pets or loved ones, and even while interacting with everyday objects. The key is learning how to channel Reiki correctly without pushing or forcing the energy.
One of the things I teach about Reiki is that it does not have to be something you only use during a formal treatment.
You can channel Reiki throughout your entire day.
While you are getting ready.
While you are driving.
Into your food or drink.
While touching your pets or loved ones.
Even into the everyday objects you interact with.
Once you learn Reiki, I want it to become something that feels natural—almost like turning on a faucet and allowing the energy to flow through you.
But there is one very important piece to this:
You want to make sure you are channeling Reiki correctly.
1. Reiki Should Not Feel Forced
I see students sometimes trying too hard.
They may push the energy while they are thinking, create cranial pressure, question what they are feeling, or wonder whether they are actually channeling Reiki at all.
You shouldn’t have to force Reiki.
When Reiki is flowing correctly, you are allowing rather than pushing.
You do not need to concentrate intensely or try to manufacture a sensation to prove that something is happening.
The more you try to force Reiki, the harder it may become to recognize what naturally channeling Reiki actually feels like.
2. You Are the Conduit, Not the Source
This is one of the most important things I teach my Reiki students:
You are the conduit, not the source.
When you channel Reiki correctly, you are allowing Reiki energy to move through you rather than trying to manufacture, push, or control the energy with your own body.
There is a big difference.
You are not trying to give another person your personal energy.
You are allowing Reiki to flow through you.
Understanding this distinction can help you become much more confident in your Reiki practice because you stop wondering whether you are personally creating enough energy.
That is not your job.
Your job is to allow it.
3. Reiki Can Become Part of Everyday Life
The more comfortable you become with Reiki, the easier it becomes to incorporate it naturally into your day.
You might channel Reiki into your morning tea or coffee.
You might allow Reiki to flow while petting your dog or cat.
You might channel Reiki into your food before eating.
You can use it while getting ready for your day or while sitting quietly in your car.
You can even channel Reiki while interacting with everyday objects.
Reiki does not always require a massage table, a formal session, or a lengthy ritual.
It can simply become part of the way you move through your life.
4. How Do You Know If You Are Channeling Reiki Correctly?
This is one of the questions I hear from Reiki students again and again.
Am I really channeling?
Am I imagining what I feel?
Why do I feel pressure in my head?
Should I be feeling more?
Am I trying too hard?
Sometimes the best way to strengthen your Reiki practice is to notice whether you are allowing the energy to flow or trying to make something happen.
If you are straining, concentrating intensely, or pushing, you may be using too much of your own effort.
Reiki should feel more like allowing than forcing.
And remember that everyone experiences Reiki differently. You do not need to create a dramatic physical sensation in order for Reiki to be flowing.
5. What Can Cranial Pressure Mean During Reiki?
Some Reiki students notice pressure in the head, forehead, or crown area when they are trying very hard to channel.
This can sometimes happen when you are overthinking the process, concentrating too intensely, or attempting to push the energy instead of simply allowing it to move through you.
If this happens, relax your focus.
Return your attention to the idea that you are the conduit.
You do not need to create Reiki energy yourself.
Allow it to flow instead of mentally trying to push it somewhere.
6. Can You Channel Reiki Into Food and Drinks?
Yes.
Reiki can be channeled into food, water, tea, coffee, or other drinks.
You can simply place your hands around or near the item and allow Reiki to flow.
You do not need to make this complicated.
This can also become an easy way to practice Reiki regularly without needing to set aside time for a formal treatment.
If you eat or drink several times throughout your day, you already have multiple opportunities to practice allowing Reiki to flow.
7. Can You Give Reiki to Pets?
Many Reiki practitioners also channel Reiki while sitting with or gently touching their pets.
Animals may respond differently than people do.
Some may move closer.
Some may relax.
Some may fall asleep.
Others may simply remain nearby.
Allow the animal to choose how close it wants to be and how long it wants to stay.
You do not need to hold an animal in place or force a Reiki treatment.
Simply allow Reiki to flow while respecting what the animal chooses to do.
8. Can Reiki Be Used While Driving?
You can allow Reiki to flow while driving, but your full attention should always remain on the road.
You do not need to close your eyes, meditate deeply, move your hands into a special position, or do anything that distracts you from driving safely.
Reiki can simply be gently flowing in the background while you remain fully present and attentive to your surroundings.
This is another example of how Reiki can become integrated into everyday life rather than something you only turn to during a formal treatment.
9. Simple Ways to Practice Reiki Throughout Your Day
One of the best ways to become more confident with Reiki is simply to use it.
Try incorporating Reiki into things you are already doing:
- Channel Reiki while drinking your morning tea or coffee.
- Allow Reiki to flow into your food before eating.
- Channel Reiki while gently petting your dog or cat.
- Allow Reiki to flow while getting ready for your day.
- Channel Reiki while sitting quietly.
- Allow it to flow while holding or interacting with everyday objects.
- Let Reiki gently flow in the background while driving without taking your attention away from the road.
You do not necessarily need to create more time in your schedule to practice Reiki.
You can begin bringing Reiki into the life you are already living.
10. Frequently Asked Questions About Everyday Reiki
Do I need to feel heat or tingling to know Reiki is working?
No. People experience Reiki differently. Sensations may include warmth, tingling, pulsing, coolness, pressure, or sometimes very little physical sensation at all.
Do I have to concentrate on Reiki the entire time?
No. In fact, concentrating too intensely can sometimes lead students to push instead of allowing. Once you begin channeling Reiki, practice allowing the energy to flow without trying to control every second of the experience.
Can I channel Reiki for only a few moments?
Yes. Reiki does not always have to be a long formal treatment. Short periods of Reiki throughout your day can help you become more comfortable with channeling.
Can I practice Reiki on everyday things?
Yes. Food, drinks, plants, pets, objects, your environment, and many of the things you interact with throughout your day can become opportunities to practice channeling Reiki.
What if I am still unsure whether I am doing it correctly?
Practice is important, but correct instruction is important too. If you continually feel that you need to push, strain, concentrate intensely, or manufacture the energy yourself, it may be helpful to return to the basic principle that you are allowing Reiki to flow through you.
11. Reiki Is Meant to Flow
Reiki does not need to be complicated.
You do not need to strain.
You do not need to concentrate intensely.
You do not need to push energy from your own body.
Allow it.
Trust it.
Practice it.
The more naturally you incorporate Reiki into your life, the easier it becomes to recognize what channeling Reiki feels like for you.
And remember:
You are the conduit, not the source.
If you would like hands-on practice with this, my live Practice Class: Channel Reiki Correctly is designed to help Reiki practitioners recognize the difference between allowing Reiki to flow and accidentally pushing or forcing the energy.
