Quick Answer: There are many different Reiki systems, and I don't believe there is one system that is right for every person. The right Reiki system is the one that feels complete to you, gives you tools you trust, and teaches you how to actually use Reiki in your everyday life. I teach the Mohr Method of Healing because it combines traditional Usui Reiki with Energy Protection, the Law of Attraction, Energy Hygiene, and eventually Psychic Development.
Over the years, I've had many students ask me which Reiki system is the best and how they are supposed to know which one to choose.
Recently, I had a student come to me with a new visualization technique, along with some new symbols and ideas that had come to him intuitively. We had a wonderful conversation about it, because this is something I have seen again and again throughout more than 30 years of teaching Reiki.
There are a lot of different Reiki systems out there.
Some students tell me they have tried one system and then another and ended up completely confused. Others have come away believing they couldn't really channel Reiki, or that maybe they simply weren't gifted enough or weren't one of the “chosen” people who could do this work.
I don't believe that.
There are billions of people on this planet. We need light workers everywhere. I am not here to tell you that my Reiki system is better than everyone else's. Every student seeks the master who is right for them, and every Reiki Master attracts certain students.
That said, I absolutely love the system I teach, and there are very specific reasons why.
1. Why There Is No Single “Best” Reiki System
There are many forms of Reiki, different lineages, different techniques, different symbols, and different ways teachers have expanded upon what they originally learned.
I don't see that as a problem.
In more than 30 years of working with students, I have never seen two people conduct a Reiki treatment exactly the same way. Think about that for a moment.
Even when two students learn the same hand positions, the same symbols, the same scanning techniques, and the same foundational system, their intuition eventually becomes part of the process.
One person may suddenly know to move to the feet. Another may feel something near the heart. Someone else may see an image, sense a color, hear a thought, or simply know that their hands need to stay in one place longer.
That individuality is completely normal.
Students can also evolve into other modalities. They can receive imagery, visualizations, ideas, symbols, or intuitive information of their own.
That does not automatically mean the original Reiki system was incomplete. It can simply mean the student is developing.
The important question isn't necessarily, “Which Reiki system is the best?”
A better question is, “Which system gives me a strong foundation while still allowing me to develop into the healer and intuitive person I am becoming?”
2. What I Look for in a Complete Reiki System
One of the reasons I love the Mohr Method of Healing is that, to me, it is complete.
I don't feel a need to constantly add something new because something is missing.
My system has been developed and taught for more than 30 years. It includes multiple levels of training, student manuals, instructor manuals, published books, Attunements, Reiki techniques, Energy Protection, Energy Hygiene, the Law of Attraction, and intuitive development.
Everything builds upon what came before it.
I want my students to understand how to channel Reiki. I want them to understand hand positions and scanning. I want them to learn the symbols and how to use them.
But I also want them to understand what happens when they are working energetically with another person.
How do you keep their energy from transferring onto you?
How do you keep your own energy from transferring onto them?
How do you clean your energy afterward?
How do you use Reiki outside of a formal treatment?
How do you begin trusting the intuitive information you receive?
Those questions are part of why my system grew beyond simply teaching someone where to place their hands.
I wanted Reiki to become something my students could actually live.
3. Why Usui Reiki Is Still My Foundation
My foundation is Usui Reiki.
I love it. I trust it. I have used it for decades.
Usui Reiki gives us the channeling process, hand positions, and the traditional Reiki symbols that form the foundation of my work.
I use Cho Ku Rei, Sei Hei Ki, Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen, and Dai Ko Myo. Those are the Reiki symbols I know deeply, use regularly, and trust.
There are other systems, including Karuna Reiki, that use additional symbols. There are also symbols and sacred imagery throughout religions, spiritual traditions, healing systems, and cultures around the world.
I don't claim expertise in all of those systems.
I teach what I know.
And I believe there is tremendous value in knowing your own system well rather than believing you constantly need another symbol, another method, or another technique before you can effectively channel Reiki.
Usui Reiki has been tried and used for many years. It gives me the foundation.
From there, I built the rest of the Mohr Method of Healing around the needs I saw in myself and in my students.
4. Reiki Symbols Are Pathways for Frequency and Power
Symbols are fascinating because a symbol itself can become a transferable pathway that holds frequency and power.
Human beings have used symbols forever.
We see them in religion, healing practices, spiritual traditions, rituals, organizations, mathematics, language, and everyday life.
We give symbols meaning.
Within Reiki, the symbols become part of how we work with and direct the energy.
But I also remind my students not to become so consumed with doing everything perfectly that they stop trusting Reiki itself.
A symbol is a tool.
Your hand position is a tool.
A visualization is a tool.
The Reiki energy is still doing what Reiki does.
This is especially important when students begin receiving their own imagery or intuitive information. You can notice it. You can explore it. You can become curious about it.
You don't have to immediately decide that you've discovered an entirely new Reiki system.
Sometimes you are simply developing your own relationship with the energy.
That is a beautiful part of becoming more experienced.
5. Reiki Is a Self-Guiding Force
One of the most important things I teach is that Reiki is a self-guiding force.
Yes, I teach structure.
I teach organized hand positions. I teach scanning. I teach students to channel Reiki and then use their intuition to go where they feel the energy needs to go.
But when someone becomes overly focused on controlling every part of the process, I remind them that Reiki knows what it is doing.
We may visualize Reiki entering through the top of the head, traveling down through the body toward the core of the earth, returning upward, and flowing through the hands.
But Reiki is not waiting for you to micromanage it.
It flows.
It works through both hands.
It guides.
There are also other modalities that teach different ways of channeling Reiki. Someone may visualize building the energy within the solar plexus and then sending it through the hands.
If it works, wonderful.
Reiki also transfers through time and space.
That is why I teach remote healing. It is also why I conduct virtual Attunements and why students can experience my recorded Attunements within my online training.
Students have told me they felt the energy, cried, saw something, experienced a vision, or had a powerful physical or emotional response.
Of course they can feel it.
Reiki transfers through time and space.
6. Why Energy Protection Is Essential in My System
Energy Protection is one of the most important additions I made to my Reiki system.
Traditional Usui Reiki did not teach me the kind of Energy Protection I now teach my students.
I added it because I did not want to pick up what other people were carrying, and I did not want them picking up what I was carrying.
Think about a medical procedure.
The physician and medical staff may wear masks and gloves. Those barriers help prevent unwanted physical transference.
I teach energetic protection for a similar reason: we do not want unwanted energetic transference.
This is where Bubble Up becomes so important.
When you are properly protected within your energetic bubble, you can still feel.
You can still sense.
You can still receive intuitive information.
Protection isn't about making you numb or disconnected.
It allows you to do the work while maintaining an energetic boundary between yourself and the person, animal, place, or situation you are working with.
From the very beginning, I work hard to teach my students this part of proper Mohr Method of Healing Reiki etiquette.
We channel the Reiki.
And we Bubble Up.
7. Why I Combined Reiki With the Law of Attraction
Once my students learn Reiki and Energy Protection, I teach them how Reiki connects with the Law of Attraction.
This is where Reiki begins to become much bigger than a healing session.
Why would we only use this beautiful energy while conducting Reiki on ourselves or another person?
You can use it throughout your entire day.
Your thoughts, feelings, and frequency are constantly broadcasting something into the world. I explain it like a boomerang: what you send outward eventually comes back toward you.
When you use Reiki to support a higher frequency, you begin changing what you are available to match with.
Maybe you experience perfect flow in traffic.
Maybe an opportunity appears.
Maybe you get a raise or promotion.
Maybe someone unexpectedly opens a door for you.
Maybe you have one of those wonderful little interactions with someone at the bank or grocery store where you find yourself laughing together, and hours later you're still thinking about how good that interaction felt.
Those moments matter.
They are part of the richness of being alive.
For me, Reiki and the Law of Attraction belong together because Reiki isn't something I want my students using for an hour and then forgetting about.
I want them using it to create a life that feels wonderful to live.
8. Energy Hygiene Takes Reiki Beyond the Treatment Room
From Reiki, Energy Protection, and the Law of Attraction, I move my students into Energy Hygiene.
Energy Hygiene teaches you what to do with the energetic environments you move through every day.
You can clean the energy in your home.
You can clean the energy at work.
You can clean the energy on the road.
You can clean the energy on the trail you walk every morning.
You can clean the energy around a family gathering that historically becomes chaotic, caustic, or uncomfortable.
This gives you something incredibly important: the ability to participate in your energetic environment rather than simply reacting to whatever is there.
It also supports the Law of Attraction.
Imagine sending out a beautiful, high-frequency thought but then allowing your own frequency to drop dramatically before that energetic “boomerang” comes back.
You may no longer be aligned with what you originally sent out.
Energy Hygiene helps you keep your frequency high so that you are available for the energy you are creating and attracting.
This is why Energy Hygiene isn't separate from Reiki in my teaching.
It is part of learning how to use Reiki in real life.
9. Psychic Development Is a Natural Next Step
Once students learn to channel Reiki, protect themselves, work consciously with frequency, and clean their energy, Psychic Development becomes a natural next step.
Now we begin asking deeper questions.
Can I sense what is going to happen?
Can I tell whether something in a room is serving me?
Can I recognize when something needs to be energetically removed?
Can I trust what I feel about a date, a person, a job opportunity, or a decision?
Should I leave the house now?
Should I call this person?
Why did I suddenly think about that friend I haven't spoken to recently?
Students begin paying much closer attention to what they know before they logically know why they know it.
I joke about that sentence so many of us have said:
“I looked right at it, but I didn't grab it.”
As intuitive awareness develops, my students begin grabbing it.
They pay attention to the thought.
They bring the thing they suddenly felt they should bring.
They call the friend who appeared on their radar and discover that person was having a terrible day and needed to hear a loving voice.
These are opportunities to become an earth angel in someone else's life.
They are opportunities to heal, connect, help, feel inspired, and recognize just how much information we are receiving all the time.
10. How Do You Know Which Reiki System Is Right for You?
If you're trying to choose a Reiki system, pay attention to how you feel when you learn about it.
Do you feel confused and diminished, as though there are special people who can do this and you may not be one of them?
Or do you feel more capable?
Does the teacher help you understand what you are doing?
Does the system give you enough structure to learn while still teaching you to trust yourself?
Does it give you tools you can actually use?
And perhaps most importantly: does something inside of you keep pulling you toward it?
Every Reiki Master is going to have a different perspective.
Every system may emphasize something different.
There are tens of thousands of Reiki Masters in the world, and I believe students often find the teacher they are meant to learn from.
You do not need to collect every Reiki system.
You don't need to constantly search for the next symbol.
You don't need to believe that another certification will finally make you gifted.
Learn the system in front of you.
Practice it.
Experience it.
Test it for yourself.
Then allow your own intuitive abilities to develop from that strong foundation.
11. The Mohr Method of Healing: Reiki You Can Live
The reason I am so fond of the Mohr Method of Healing is because it brings all of these pieces together.
It begins with Usui Reiki.
Then we add Energy Protection, so you can work with energy without unnecessarily exchanging energy with everyone around you.
Then we bring in the Law of Attraction, so you understand frequency and what you are broadcasting into the world.
Then we develop Energy Hygiene, so you can clean and manage the energy surrounding you and keep your own frequency high.
And from there, we naturally move into Psychic Development, where you learn to trust what you see, hear, sense, feel, and know.
For me, the system is complete.
It gives you opportunities to heal, opportunities to become more intuitive, opportunities to help other people, and opportunities to feel inspired, grateful, connected, and alive.
And no matter which Reiki system you ultimately choose, if you are sincerely exploring Reiki and learning how to work with healing energy, I applaud you.
You are doing something that can benefit not only you, but the people, animals, places, and world around you.
If something inside of you is saying, “I think there's something more,” and the Mohr Method of Healing resonates with you, I invite you to explore my Reiki training and reach out to me. There is probably a reason you found me.
