How Reiki Changes the Way You See the World

Quick Answer: When you work with Reiki, consciousness, the Law of Attraction, energy protection, and energy hygiene long enough, you may begin to see and respond to the world very differently. You may become less reactive, less angry, and less impatient. You may find yourself able to channel compassion and insight in the middle of a crisis. I believe challenges sometimes happen so that we, as lightworkers, can bring healing into the experience and help make an incredibly difficult situation softer.

A Dog Bit Me in the Throat

Years ago, when I was very young—I think I was 21—I was at a bar where one of my best friends was bartending.

She's still my best friend today, and she's super fun.

When I would startle her, she would scream.

Not just a little scream.

She would give one of those awesome Hollywood-level 10 screams.

It was really, really entertaining.

I'd had a few drinks, and I decided it would be funny to go outside and knock on the window because I knew she would scream.

I went outside.

And completely out of nowhere, a dog that was tied up jumped up and bit me in the throat.

There was a puncture in my throat.

I just said:

“No.”

I was a dog owner, so I knew how to handle dogs.

And my next thought was:

Shoot. I have to find the owner.

────────

The Situation Immediately Became Chaotic

The owner lived above the bar.

I told my girlfriend what had happened, and she was understandably freaked out.

I said:

“I'll be fine.”

It was bleeding, but it was a puncture.

So I went upstairs, knocked on the door, and said:

“Hi, sir. My name is Lisa. I was outside and I got bit by your dog.”

His girlfriend or wife immediately exploded.

She started screaming at him.

Screaming at me.

Telling him to shut the door.

Telling him not to talk to me.

Then he started yelling too.

He told me I shouldn't have been outside and began raging at me.

And there I was, standing there holding my throat.

────────

I Stayed in My Energy Power

I took a breath.

I deflected what was coming at me.

And I stayed in my energy power.

I simply said:

“I just need to know if he's had his shots.”

The woman continued screaming.

He became increasingly upset.

And at some point, I intuitively reached out, put my hand on his chest, and said:

“Sir, I am not going to sue you.”

Then I told him something that I knew with absolute certainty:

“I need to talk to your dog right now, or I will be afraid of dogs for the rest of my life. And I do not want to be afraid of dogs.”

He was startled.

He was shocked.

And something changed.

────────

Suddenly, I Saw Him Differently

In that moment, I could see that life had been very hard on this man.

I could tell by the way he was dressed.

I could tell by the way they were talking.

The screaming.

The swearing.

The reactivity.

Life had been hard on both of them.

And even though I was the person who had just been bitten, what came through me was compassion and calm.

The dog was being a dog.

I had startled the dog.

Something scared him.

And instead of deciding that everybody involved was terrible, I could see what was happening underneath the behavior.

────────

I Needed to Talk to the Dog

We went downstairs.

And I still feel bad for this dog when I think about this story.

I'm sure he has passed on and is in the beautiful spirit world now.

But I remember him looking so confused.

He looked at me.

Then he looked at his owner.

And I could almost feel him thinking:

Oh my God. I'm really going to get it.

I just pet him.

I told him:

“I know you were scared. I'm okay.”

I understood.

The dog was just being a dog.

────────

“I've Never Had Anybody Treat Me the Way You're Treating Me”

Afterward, the man asked if he could buy me a drink.

I told him no—my girlfriend had cut me off.

But then he said something that has stayed with me all these years.

He told me:

“I've never had anybody treat me the way that you're treating me right now.”

He thanked me.

And I remember thinking:

Yeah.

It's not your fault.

The dog was being a dog.

These things happen.

He kept coming back to the way I had handled it.

He couldn't believe that I wasn't threatening him.

I wasn't screaming.

I wasn't trying to make the situation worse.

────────

There Are Many Ways to Respond to the Same Situation

It didn't make sense to me to become angry.

It didn't make sense to threaten him.

It didn't make sense to become mean.

It didn't make sense to immediately turn the situation into something legal and combative.

It was already a bad situation.

Why make it worse?

And all these years later, it makes a pretty great story.

But when I look back on it, I also recognize where I was spiritually at that point in my life.

I was working intensely with consciousness.

I was reading.

I was already teaching my Reiki Master training system.

I started teaching at 20.

I was already living and breathing:

Reiki.

The Law of Attraction.

Energy protection.

I wasn't particularly good at the energy-protection part that night at 21 in the bar!

Obviously.

I probably would not have ended up with a dog biting me.

And I actually remember having a hesitation before I went outside.

Something inside me said:

Don't go. Don't do this.

At the time, I thought maybe I was worried that I would trip over something.

So I ignored it.

I thought:

I'll be fine.

That's another lesson in itself.

────────

Challenges Can Become Opportunities for Lightworkers

The larger point of this story is that there are many different ways to handle difficult situations.

And I believe that sometimes challenges happen so that we, as lightworkers, can find a way to bring healing to the people involved in the experience.

I have experienced terrible tragedies.

Crisis.

Violence.

Death.

And I have watched Reiki come into those situations and make them softer.

Not erase them.

But bring healing into something that could otherwise feel completely raw.

────────

Reiki During the Death of a Child

I remember working with a family whose son was actively dying.

He was in hospice care.

I taught the family how to beam Reiki.

They were all able to participate.

And at the moment he died, they all felt his soul lift.

They all felt love.

It became this incredible, powerful experience.

Something that could have been absolutely awful and raw still carried healing within the transformation.

And sometimes that is the best we can possibly ask for.

────────

You May Notice That You Are Changing

If you've been working with Reiki and consciousness for a while, you may notice that you are responding differently too.

Maybe you're not as impatient.

Maybe you're not as angry.

Maybe you don't immediately need to prove you're right.

Maybe somebody else's chaos doesn't automatically become your chaos.

You can look at another person and recognize:

They are doing the best they can at this moment with the tools they currently have.

I remember hearing the Dalai Lama speak about his Chinese brothers and sisters with compassion despite everything that had happened in Tibet.

That stayed with me.

We are all souls having a human experience here.

────────

Reiki Helps You Optimize the Energy of a Situation

With Reiki, the Law of Attraction, energy hygiene, protection, and frequency work, you can optimize situations.

You can clean the energy.

You can channel insight.

You can channel compassion.

You can suddenly know the right thing to say at exactly the right moment.

You can hold space for somebody who is hurting.

You can allow them to have their process without getting swallowed up by it yourself.

And you can help them transmute out of it.

These things are possible.

────────

You Begin to See Beyond the Behavior

This is one of the ways Reiki changes the way I experience the world.

I don't only see somebody screaming.

I can ask:

What's underneath that?

I don't only see somebody raging.

I can sense:

What happened to this person?

I don't only see the crisis.

I can ask:

Where can healing enter this situation?

That doesn't mean accepting terrible behavior.

It means being able to remain in your own energy power long enough to respond consciously instead of simply adding more misaligned energy to what is already happening.

────────

If You're Beginning to See the World Differently, Keep Going

If you're finding that Reiki is changing how you respond to people and situations, I want you to recognize that.

If you are becoming more compassionate...

More intuitive...

Less reactive...

More aware of frequency...

More able to hold your own energy during somebody else's crisis...

You're doing the right thing.

You're on the right track.

Keep going.

Because I truly wish and hope that more people learn how to channel this wonderful compassionate love energy.

Person by person.

Moment by moment.

Situation by situation.

That is how our planet continues to heal.
