Quick Answer: I believe that we all have pre-planned exits from this incarnation. I call these “death windows.” I believe most people have two or three—times when we could exit this life or continue forward. If you have experienced a lot of tragedy, sudden deaths, serious illnesses, accidents, or moments when you wondered, “How did I survive that?” this perspective may help you understand that there may be a much larger divine plan at work.

What Are Death Windows?
I don't believe that we enter this incarnation without pre-planned exits.
These are called death windows, and I believe that we all have them.
Imagine that you're traveling on the highway of life.
You come to an off-ramp.
You could take it.
Or you could keep going.
There might be benefits to staying.
There might be benefits to leaving.
And farther down the road, there may be another exit.
I believe most people have two or three of these opportunities during an incarnation.

Why Do Some People Seem to Have Nine Lives?
I think this is fascinating because we hear stories all the time about people who live in dangerous communities, have dangerous careers, survive multiple concussions, illnesses, car accidents, injuries, or situations where any one of those things could have taken their life.
People will literally say:
“Do you have nine lives?”
And then somebody else catches the flu and dies.
Someone slips, hits their head, and dies.
We hear horrible stories about children, teenagers, and young adults who were seemingly in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Why?
Why do some people have what appear to be multiple opportunities to leave and yet remain here, while someone else exits very quickly?
Because of the deaths I've experienced in my own life, I very much believe there is a divine plan.

Sometimes There Is a Meaningful Exchange Before Someone Leaves
Something I've experienced repeatedly is that before a person suddenly leaves, there may be a very meaningful exchange with them.
Not always.
But very often.
I'm privileged enough to say that I can think of this happening with almost every significant death I've experienced.
Sometimes that exchange happened six months before the person died.
And afterward I thought:
Ah. That's why I had that wonderful conversation with them.
I had a former client call me completely out of the blue.
We hadn't worked together in probably a couple of years.
He said, “Lisa, I just want to tell you how great our exchanges were and how much I appreciated the time that we had together.”
I asked him what inspired him to call.
He said he didn't know.
He just had an urge to tell me that our work had really helped him and changed his life.
It left me with such a wonderful feeling.
He passed away six months later.

Another Student Reached Out Before She Died
I had another former student unexpectedly reach out to me.
We talked for quite a while.
She was a Reiki Master Teacher student who was beginning her own practice, and we talked about property clearing and all sorts of wonderful things.
It was just a really nice conversation.
She passed away about a year later.
Suddenly.
She didn't know she was going to die.
I didn't know.
But afterward, again, there was that feeling of:
That's why we had that conversation.
While it's still sad, there is something inside of me that feels a sense of harmony around these experiences.
I believe their incarnation was complete and that they chose to exit when they did.

Could You Have Already Passed Through One of Your Own Death Windows?
You may be able to look backward at your own life and recognize one.
Maybe you were in a serious car accident.
Maybe you were extremely sick.
Maybe you narrowly dodged a dangerous situation.
Maybe something happened and afterward there was almost an eerie feeling around it.
You knew:
That could have gone very differently.
That may have been one of your death windows.
You reached an exit.
And you kept going.

Can You Intuitively Sense Your Death Windows?
Depending on your intuitive awareness, you can meditate and ask yourself about your own death windows if that doesn't make you uncomfortable.
I know two of mine.
They're later.
Much later.
Because I want to be here for a while!
I have a lot of work I want to do and a lot that I want to share.
I don't feel that I've passed through one of mine yet.
But you may have a very different feeling.
You may immediately think:
Oh. That was one.
And you may suddenly understand an experience in your past very differently.

I Believe There Is Divine Order to When We Leave
I once heard a story about a woman who died after a car accident.
Her adult son worked very hard with different mediums because he desperately wanted to communicate with her.
The accident apparently wasn't catastrophic, but her injuries would have required a great deal of long-term care.
When he eventually asked her why she left, the message he received was that the amount of care she would have needed would have bankrupted him.
He said he didn't care.
He would have rather had his mother.
But the message he received from her was that doing so would have interfered with his soul's mission and his path.
That story has always stayed with me.
Because I believe there is a divine order to everything.

One Person Leaving Changes Many Other Things
We all get to be here in this wonderful incarnation of life.
And when somebody leaves, other things happen.
Other people step forward.
Other people step up.
Relationships change.
Dynamics change.
Different opportunities emerge.
There are new experiences and new things for people to learn.
So even when we can't understand a death from our human perspective, I believe it exists within a much larger plan.

The Person Who Passed May Still Be Accessible to You
This is another part of death that I think can bring enormous comfort.
Especially in my world, most of the time you can still access the person who passed on.
You can talk to them.
You can feel them.
You can sense them.
You can have energy exchanges with them.
And very often, they become guides.
They can become a resource.
I teach this in my classes because I've watched students experience it again and again.

Your Spirit Team Can Help You
I remember one student telling me that she had been working with this and then went horseback riding.
She was struggling a little bit on the horse and wanted instruction.
So she cleared her mind and simply asked:
“Can I please have some assistance from anybody who knows horses?”
She said Princess Diana showed up.
She received information about how to position herself on the horse, changed her posture, and suddenly everything worked perfectly.
I love stories like this.
You can ask.
You can intuitively open yourself.
And you may be surprised by who becomes available to help you.

This Is Why Energy Hygiene and Community Matter
When you're working with spirit communication, intuitive information, or people who have passed, energy hygiene is incredibly important.
You want to clean your energy.
Channel Reiki.
Bubble Up.
Protect your energetic field.
And know what you are interacting with.
Community is also important because it gives you people to practice with and helps provide validation.
If you're in a class and several people independently pick up the same person, guide, animal, or piece of information around someone, that's powerful.
It helps you learn what intuitive information actually feels like.

I Believe We Are Here Until We Reach One of Our Exits
I firmly believe that you are here until you reach one of your exits.
And we all have them.
Sometimes you continue.
Sometimes the incarnation is complete.
If you have experienced a tremendous amount of death or tragedy in your life, perhaps this idea gives you another way to look at what happened.
It doesn't mean you don't miss the person.
It doesn't mean the experience wasn't painful.
But perhaps there was a much larger plan occurring that you could not see from where you were standing.
There is a divine order to absolutely everything.
We are all pieces of this gigantic, wonderful plan here on Earth.
And I believe everything happens for a reason.
