No More Road Rage

Blog post image - Road Rage

Are you being delayed to be on time?

We’ve all been there.

You’re driving in morning traffic and someone is going super slow in front of you, with no option for you to pass. With your special mind powers, you are “willing” them off the road, and out of your way. It’s as though you are a gerbil in a wheel, running faster and faster, with no trackable progress. The rage inside of you is building and your entire focus is Mr. Slow-Poke in front of you, selfishly taking his time when you have places to be! And then you snap. You flip him off, you ride his bumper, you honk your horn. You rage. And when he finally moves out of your way, you drive up to an intersection, only to see the light turn red! You are forced to stop completely. It’s infuriating!

It doesn’t have to be that way. Not if you adopt the mentality that the Universe is actually putting you in the right place, at the right time. I call this “divine timing.”

Whether or not you realize it, there is a special rhythm in the Universe, a singular drum beat that only your soul dances to. Try as you may, you are not always able to control that drum beat. The greater purpose for this is that the Universe is putting you in perfect alignment with your optimal life path.

Perhaps being late or early allows for someone to open a door for you when your hands are full. Or how about this— your perfect parking space opens up right before you get there? One time, I went to the beach and someone had just abandoned an old boogie board. My kids and I played for hours on that thing!

One of my favorite stories about divine timing is about a client of mine who struggled to connect with a friend she hadn’t seen in years. Despite multiple attempts over a 2- week period, they were unable to coordinate a time to meet. A week later, my client was at a doctor’s appointment and was inspired to go into the restroom to fix her hair. On her way, she ran into that very friend in the hallway! It had been 20 years since they’d seen each other, but they just laughed and hugged each other! Had both of them not been there at that exact moment, they would have missed a wonderful moment of connection with each other.

I bet you have a story like that, one where you were early or late to an appointment, or detoured on your journey and ended up optimizing your life somehow. We all have these stories, and yet we are so quick to negate them when we want to be in charge of our lives. I strongly suggest that you do a quick Google search on “How being late saved my life.” You will be blown away by the stories of fate.

I believe that there is a conductor, a higher power or element, that seems to govern an infinite number of coincidences to coordinate our lives. It’s exhausting for our brains to comprehend the number of moving pieces that go into an optimal connection or situation. The exact minute someone leaves the house, all of the cars involved during the journey, the speed of traffic, red lights, weather—everything—all to lead us to a magical opportunity that optimizes our lives, protects us, or simply makes our day. For all that we do to control our lives, my advice is to consciously take the back seat and let the Universe drive for a while. You may not get to your destination in the way or timeframe you desire, but I bet it’s a lot more interesting and gratifying!
